Members of Danville High School's American Sign Language I and II classes sign the song "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" during the chorus, "You better not cry, you better not pout." The class performed Christmas songs with students in the Kentucky School for the Deaf Signing Choir at McDowell Place on Tuesday.
Members of the Kentucky School for the Deaf Signing Choir and Danville High School students in American Sign Language classes I and II brought a touch of holiday spirit to the young — and young at heart — on Tuesday.
At noon, both groups met for the first time at McDowell Place of Danville. They had been practicing separately all the Christmas songs they were going to perform together.
In the lobby at McDowell Place, students donned Santa caps and entertained the residents while they enjoyed lunch.
DHS students signed their songs first. Then the KSD choir took over. Their performance of “The 12 Days of Christmas” seemed to really grab the residents’ attention and got a few chuckles, especially toward the end of the song. Since there weren’t 12 choir members, a few of them dashed to the end of the line to sign their parts, then dashed back just in time to sign their original part in the song.
After signing and singing at McDowell place, the students traveled to Hogsett on Main to perform for the kindergarten through second-graders there.
