On Thursday, Jan. 17, Ashley Oliver, the director of diversity and inclusion programming, and Amanda DeWitt, the AmeriCorps VISTA for sustained community dialogues presented an overview of the activities of both their Centre College offices to Danville Kiwanis. They also shared details about the Inaugural Martin Luther King Day of Service to be held on Saturday, Jan. 19:
• Building “little free pantries” in partnership with Boyle County ASAP, Shepherd’s House and Hope Network.
• Making, packing and delivering boxed lunches in partnership with First Christian Church and Soups on Us.
• Collecting food at Kroger in partnership with New Hope Food Pantry.
• Tagging, cleaning, shelving and organizing at Blue Bird Market.
Also described was the Day of Building Bridges and Community conducted on Nov. 1, when the Centre College Campus experienced an abbreviated class schedule with closed offices in the afternoon to provide over 40 workshops and panels for the campus community to come together to strengthen the community.
Lastly, it was announced that beginning Feb. 5, Beloved Community Lunches will
be held every Tuesday from 11:30-1:30 (to come and go as you please) in Centre College’s Campus Center in room 201. Danville community members are invited to bring their lunch or go through Cowan Dining Hall and bring their food up to room 201 to share in a meal to promote the Beloved Community.
