Let the Parks & Rec board do their job

I have just read the letter in Tuesday’s paper from Jo Marie Lammy, member of our Parks and Rec board.
I think she is spot on in her comments and suggestions. The Parks and Rec Board and the employees deserve a big “Well Done.” They have hung in there and done a terrific job for the last several years and deserve to be commended for that as well as big Thank you from all of us, especially for what they have had to deal with the last several months!
She is exactly right — they are a very professional board and deserve the support from all elected officials, just the same as all other boards that serve our community. I have said for months, if the politicians and the (city manager) would leave the board alone and let them do their job, as they do all the other boards, things would go much smoother and all this brouhaha would have been avoided.
It’s March and we still don’t have a director. If the board were left alone these last 12 months, I think they would have had one in place by Jan. 1 as they had planned, but for whatever reason the city manager got involved and here we are, at a standstill, simply because he wants to run everything.
I say to Mr Scott, “Let the elected officials and the folks appointed by the elected officials do their assigned jobs. Things will get done much quicker.”
I say thank you to the magistrates that have done their homework and have seen this for what it is. I agree one entity should be in charge, THE PARKS AND REC BOARD.
