Windy conditions of 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph in Boyle County, may have caused the power outages throughout Danville and Junction City Thursday afternoon.

Danville Schools has cancelled all after-school activities after 4:30 p.m. due to the threat of severe weather later in the day.

As many as 2,000 residents were without power Thursday afternoon, according to Boyle County Emergency Management director Mike Wilder.

As of 4 p.m., Kentucky Utilities was reporting fewer than seven customers left without power in the Danville area. Inter-County Energy was reporting hundreds still without power in the Forkland area and east of Junction City into Lincoln County. Inter-County was also reporting smaller outages west of Stanford and in the Moreland area in Lincoln County.

Residents are encouraged to use caution when driving due to traffic lights being out and tree limbs falling.

The roof blew off a house in Junction City and hit a transformer. Also, a female walking her dog in Jackson Park was struck by a fallen tree and may have broken bones, Wilder said.

Firefighters said they initially thought they would need chainsaws to free the woman from under the tree but they weren’t required.

Kentucky Utilities has reported that more than 1,400 customer are without power and Inter County Energy reported more than 1,700 customers are also without electric power  in the northwestern portion of Lincoln County.

Wilder said the windy and extreme weather was only getting started Thursday afternoon and the forecast looked worse for Thursday evening.
