Forkland Genealogy and History Workshop

FORKLAND — The annual Forkland Genealogy and History Workshop is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 11 at the Forkland Community Center on KY. 37 in Western Boyle County.

Three speakers and a video of the Elder Cemetery will be presented.

Participants will also have time to view resources in the Lincoln Museum and network with others.

Speaker are:

9 a.m. – Jim Jacobs of Danville, former president and CEO of Inter-County Energy Cooperative, will talk about an older sister he never knew in his presentation of “The Boys of Margraten”. His ancestry research in 2013 took him to the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten.

10:30 a.m. – Wayne Thurman of Danville, former educator and school administrator, and chairman of the Forkland Museum committee, will talk about the museum. He will tell about records and artifacts in the museum and how they might be useful to genealogists and historians today.

12:30 p.m. – Jamie Helle of Danville, reference librarian in the Boyle County Public Library, will tell some “Alternatives to Ancestry”. She will talk about other options to researching ancestors.

2 p.m. – Chris Carey of Junction City, who makes videos of historical sites, will present “Learning History from Cemeteries: A video Tour of Elder Cemetery, with Commentary,” by Chris, Doris Purdom and Shirley Sheperson.

Preregistration is required by May 9. Attendance is limited to 50. Cost is $30, including lunch catered by Melton’s Great American Deli. Mail registration to Pat Williams, 750 Black Lick Road, Gravel Switch, KY 40328 or visit forklandlincolnmuseum.org to pay via PayPal (credit card).
