Jonah Lewis, a freshman at Mercer County Senior High School, performed Frederic Chopin’s “Prelude in D-flat major” (Raindrop Prelude) at the Singletary Center on the University of Kentucky campus on Monday, April 22. He performed at the invitation of piano professor, Dr. Irina Voro, who works with Jonah a couple of times a year. Jonah studies piano with Gene Robertson, who said of him, “Jonah is an incredibly talented musician whose love for music shows in his playing. The Chopin he played at the Singletary Center was fantastic!” Jonah also plays the organ and has played both instruments at local churches, and performed his own piano and organ concert at Harrodsburg United Methodist Church on April 6.
Jonah’s parents, Dwayne and Sheri Lewis, are very supportive of Jonah’s role as a musician. Of Jonah they said, “We are so very proud of the dedication and hard work Jonah has put into his music.” Jonah, his parents, and Gene are looking forward to additional opportunities for Jonah to perform, including at the University of Kentucky. Of his experience performing at the Singletary Center Jonah said, “I felt good about how I performed that night. The Steinway piano there is my favorite piano.”
