Golf scramble, dinner to benefit cancer patient

A golf scramble, dinner and silent auction will be held Monday, June 17 at Old Bridge Golf Club.

Hosted by “The Montgomery Boys,” the event is to raise money for Wendy Todd and her family, as she battles a second round with cancer.

Todd was recently diagnosed with secondary MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome,) which occurred because of damage to the DNA from chemotherapy or radiation therapy previously given to treat a previous cancer. She will be heading to a cancer center in Houston, Texas soon for several months of intense treatment and a bone marrow transplant.

Monday’s event will include a meet and greet with country music stars Eddie Montgomery, John Michael Montgomery and Walker Montgomery, beginning at 1 p.m.

Cost for the golf scramble is $100 per person or $400 per team. Cost for dinner only is  $30 per person. Golf hole sponsorships are $250 and monetary donations and silent auction items are being accepted. Citizens Police Academy

The Danville Police Department will be hosting its Citizens Police Academy Aug. 13-Oct. 22. This is a unique learning opportunity that will provide an up-close look at the Danville Police Department.

The curriculum will be interactive and include: department overview, patrol activities, telecommunications, criminal investigations, use of force, active shooter, training and crime scene processing. All participants will have the opportunity to complete police related scenarios, traffic stops, defensive tactics and simunitions.

The course is free to all Boyle County residents. Applications can be found online at danvilleky.gov, and also can be picked up at the Danville Police Department Monday-Friday, during business hours.
