Casey’s Law training, vigil on Sept. 12

 

Thursday, Sept. 12, a special training on Casey’s Law will be held beginning at 5:15 p.m. at First Christian Church, 555 E. Lexington Ave. The training will be followed by a candlelight vigil in memory of all those lost to drug overdoses, beginning at 7 p.m. Dinner will be served and local resource information will be available. This free event is sponsored by Boyle County ASAP, Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL), and Hope Network. Check back next week to read more about this event and Casey’s Law. DAR asks churches to ring bells on Constitution Day

 

The Daughters of the American Revolution St. Asaph chapter in Danville is asking local churches to ring bells at noon on Constitution Day, Tuesday, Sept. 17, which is also the beginning of Constitution Week, Sept. 17-23. This observation was started by the DAR who petitioned Congress to set aside Sept. 17-23 annually to be dedicated to the observance to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution.  

The local DAR chapter, St. Asaph, annually makes an effort to bring attention to this important observance. When you hear the bells ring on that day, remember to protect and defend the U. S. Constitution, the very important document that guarantees our liberties, freedoms and inalienable rights.

 

Ephraim McDowell Health sponsoring free health screenings on Sept. 18

 

Danville – Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring a free health screening on September 18 at the Danville Boyle County Senior Citizens Center from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Screenings include cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, stroke risk and take-home colorectal cancer screening kits (over age 50). Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel.   Medications except for diabetic medications may be taken with water. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended. To schedule an appointment, please call (859) 236-2070. The screenings are for anyone 18 years and older. 

 

AAUW Annual “Meet and Greet” is Sept. 19

 

Central Kentucky women are invited to join with members of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Bluegrass Central Branch for their annual “Meet and Greet” on Thursday, Sept. 19. The gathering is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Woodford County Library, 115 N Main St., Versailles. Guests are invited to learn more about the organization, its mission, and goals. Snacks, opportunities to meet new friends, plus lots of fun and fellowship also are part of the evening’s events. Post 15 to conduct safety traffic checkpoints and activity report

Columbia – Kentucky State Police, Post 15 will be conducting safety traffic checkpoints in the Post 15 area, which includes Casey.. Troopers will be checking for impaired drivers, children that are not properly restrained in child safety seats and informing the public about the use of seatbelts. These safety checkpoints will be conducted in various locations throughout the Post 15 area that are experiencing a high ratio of vehicular crashes resulting in injury and/or death compared to relatively low safety restraint usage ratio.

During the month of August 2019, there were 10 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area. This brings the yearly fatality count to 15 compared with 17 through this same period in 2018. Statewide fatality count stands at 493 compared with 473 through this same period in 2018. During the month of August 2019, there were 490 citations written, 115 courtesy notices written, 329 complaints answered, 37 motorists assisted, 27 criminal cases opened and 205 criminal arrests made.

RICHMOND —  The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, which provides coverage for Madison, Clark, Estill, Lee, Owsley, Jackson, Mercer, Boyle, Lincoln, Garrard and Jessamine counties, will be conducting periodic traffic safety checkpoints at locations approved by the Kentucky State Police Policy and Procedures Manual. Special attention will be paid to occupant protection (seatbelt adherence), sobriety, insurance, and registration violations.
