As part of the Danville/Boyle County Get Moving Challenge, organizers are promoting a series of bike rides around town called the “Tour De Ville.”
City Commissioner Rick Serres will lead the bike rides around various neighborhoods in Danville. Tour De Ville will be a casual group bike ride through Danville’s neighborhoods, trails, parks and historic sites, he said.
“My inspiration for this came from my last city commission campaign, where I rode through every neighborhood in Danville,” Serres said. “With a catchy name, I thought others would also like to discover the city via a casual bike ride.”
The first bike ride will be Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. The ride will start at City Hall, then travel along West Main Street and Maple Avenue, covering territory in west Danville and around Centre College before circling south and winding up on Baughman Avenue, Duncan Hill and a trail along Clarks Run. The ride will pass Pioneer Playhouse and Henson Park, coming back into downtown Danville along East Main Street.
The second ride will be Oct. 9 at 1 p.m., starting at McDowell Wellness Center and traveling through Bluegrass Estates and Millennium Park. The ride will continue through the communities of Argyll/Lannock, Broadway, Candlewood, Green Acres, Indian Hills, Rolling Meadows and Weisiger Woods. It will travel along the Ky. 2168 Trail, then through Colonial Heights, Streamland, Jackson Park and Caldwell Manor before ending at Mallard’s.
For more information and to sign up, contact Danville Bike and Footwear at (859) 238-7669 or Rick Serres at rick or (859) 533-0862. The first 48 people who sign up for the bike tour will receive a free T-shirt.
“The plan is not only to discover neighborhoods, but also re-acquaint with areas of interest, bike lanes and trails,” Serres said. “I think there will be a fair interest for these fun outings.”
