1934-2020
Shirley Ann Catron, 85, of Somerset, formerly of Danville, born in 1934 to James C. and Mary F. Hagan McGee in Manton, Kentucky and raised in Louisville. She was the loving wife to William F. Catron for 64 years, during which time they were able to travel all across the United States as part of the US Navy, with their children.
She was the owner of Ms. Shirley’s Daycare, which she operated from her home in Danville until she retired in 1997. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and bird watching with her husband.
She was a former President of the Boyle Co. Democratic Women’s Club. She was an avid quilter and member of the Pieceable Friends Quilting Guild; she truly loved quilting. She was an active member of Saint Peter and Saint Paul Catholic Church in Danville, where she volunteered her time in the Amen Corner. She was also a member of Saint Mildred Catholic Church in Somerset.
She loved to laugh and share memories, she never met a stranger. She enjoyed reading and watching UK basketball games.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband William F. Catron, who passed away on March 12, 2019; her parents, James and Mary McGee; brothers, Carol, Rudy, Hagan, and Louis McGee; sisters, Jean Kaufamn, Joyce Stevens, and Mary Francis Carver.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca & (Curtis) Stringer, Doug & (Karen) Catron, Mark & (Terri) Catron, and Katrina & (Ernest) Belcher; grandchildren, Joe McKinley, William & (Alicia) McKinley, Hunter & (Brittany) Catron, Cameron Catron, Lauren Hill, Morgan Belcher, and Levi Belcher; and great-grandchildren, Liam McKinley, Khyli McKinley, Manix McKinley, Brittingham McKinley, and Liliana McKinley. She is also survived by her brother, Tom & (Janice) McGee; sisters, Clarice & (Tom) O’Brian, and Ann & (Mike) Jenkins; sisters-in-law, Dorothy McGee, and Allene Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.
