James L. Slone

1928-2020

James L. Slone, 91, of Stanford, KY passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Stanford Care and Rehabilitation. 

Born on August 13, 1928 in Stanford to the late James L. Slone, Sr. and Soonie Davis McCurry Slone. He was a member of the United States Army and served as a First Class Sergeant in the Korean War as a tank operator in Germany. 

He was a member of Parlor Grove Baptist Church and had been attending Grace Fellowship Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. James was a very patriotic man who loved his country, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching old westerns and dancing. 

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Slone of Tuscaloosa, AL and a sister, Dixie Smith (Doug) of Stanford, KY; countless nieces, nephews and cousins; and a good friend, Sandra Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Shannon Slone, Leo Slone, Quinton Slone, Doug Slone and Cleo Slone and three sisters, Joyce Robbins, Melba Cox and Eden Gay Gray; and an infant sister, Vivian Vane Slone. 

A visitation has been scheduled for Monday, June 15, 2020 from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY with Bro. Vola Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg, KY with Full Military Honors presented by Caswell Saufley American Legion Post #18. 

Pallbearers are Tom Slone, Rick Slone, Rob Slone, Richard Slone, Seth Smith, Bruce Deatherage, Buddy Slone and Doug Smith. Honorary Pallbearers are Johnny Robbins and Mark Slone. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. BOX 758516, Topeka, KS 66675
