News release – update from the district’s website

Boyle County Schools is awaiting an executive order from the governor’s office that will clarify some of the following information, but for planning purposes, here is what we do know.

The governor recommends not returning to in-person learning until at least Jan. 11. Boyle County Schools intends to follow this recommendation and will be fully virtual Wednesday-Friday, Jan. 6-8. It is our hope that we can return to some form of in-person school on Monday, Jan. 11.

The board of education approved using a version of an A/B Hybrid for in-person learning at its December meeting, so we are working through that option. It is likely that we will have to utilize an A/B Hybrid when the county is “red” on the state incidence matrix. Rest assured that students will be grouped by household, so your entire household will be on the same schedule.

Should we have to use an A/B Hybrid, “A” students will learn in person on Mondays and Tuesdays, “B” students will learn in person on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and all students will be virtual on Fridays. There will be additional information about the A/B Hybrid, including household assignments, shared with in-person learners on Dec. 29.

We expect there to be a mandate included in the executive order allowing high risk staff to opt-out of in-person duties, which may greatly affect our ability to operate the schools. Similarly, we’re awaiting information about when the A/B Hybrid will be allowed versus when we’ll have to operate fully virtual.

All of our planning is subject to change based on the executive order, which we hope to have next week, and again, we will share more information with in-person learners on Dec. 29. We appreciate your patience as we hurry up and wait.
