Crafting for Keeps: “Painted Heart Magnets”

Each month the library offers a craft kit that adults can take and create in the comfort of their homes with the help of an instructional video. The craft for February is “Painted Heart Magnets.” Each kit includes a 6-inch canvas magnet, paint, palette, and brushes.

Kits may be picked up from the Boyle County Public Library starting February 1 — one kit per household, while supplies last. The special video tutorial is produced by the Art Center of the Bluegrass and can be viewed at boylepublib.org/youtube. The craft is recommended for ages 18 and up. (This program is a regional partnership between the Art Center of the Bluegrass, the Lincoln County Public Library, the Mercer County Public Library, and the Boyle County Public Library.)

Valentine Crafts & More

Children’s Services Librarian Libby McWhorter is putting together Valentine Crafts & More grab bags with two themed crafts, a snack to make, and a STEM activity. A video of instructions on how to make everything included in the grab bag will premiere on the library’s Children’s Programming Facebook page and YouTube channel. Supplies for this craft are limited. Those interested in participating must call the library at (859) 238-7323 to register to reserve a bag by Friday, February 5 before 5:30 PM. Patrons who register by the deadline may pick up their kits at the library from Tuesday-Wednesday, Feb. 9-10. This activity is recommended for ages 5-8.

“Show Some Love” Valentines

In addition to these crafting events, the library is hosting “Show Some Love,” a card-making activity where patrons can make special valentine cards for residents who live in local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Blank cards can be picked up at the library then returned once decorated. Completed cards can be brought to the Tree Desk in the Children’s Library from February 1-12. The valentines will be delivered to the residential facilities on Feb. 15. All ages are welcome to participate.

Weekly Take & Make Activities for Youth:

• KidStir

On Tuesdays at 4 p.m., children can make a tasty new treat at home as they follow along with an instructional video. Those interested in participating will need to register each week by calling the library by the Monday of that week to pick up the free kit on Tuesday. Supplies are limited. This event is for ages 5-8.

• Teen Take & Make

Teens can pick up a DIY project kit they can make at home, with the help of a how-to tutorial video. No registration is required, but supplies are limited. The video will premiere on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. This activity is for ages 13-18.

• Tween DIY

Each Friday at 4 p.m. the library hosts a virtual DIY for tweens showing them how to make fun and useful items. Participants can pick up a free kit of supplies from the library then follow along with the instructional video at home. Supplies are limited and are given out on a first come basis. Kits may be picked up at the Tree Desk in the Children’s Library starting seven days prior to video release. This activity is for ages 9-13.
