Farmers market set to open Saturday

Spring has sprung, which means it’s time for the Boyle County Farmers Market to commence.
The market will open on Saturday, May 1, at Constitution Square from 9 a.m. to noon. Even though tomatoes and corn aren’t in season yet, there will still be plenty of farmers selling a variety of produce, meats, and baked goods.
Market Director Jeff Jewel said there are more vendors signed up to sell at the market this season than last year. More artisans will also be selling their creations.
“We have live music lined up for every week. We have many more vendors and more special events like storytelling, fun activities for kids, and theme days to name just a few additions to this year’s market,” Jewel said.
On the first day of the market, local musician Shane White will be on stage and the Boyle County Humane Society will have special guests, he added.
Jewel said people will be asked to continue wearing a face mask and social distance, just like they did last year. “Officially the same protocols as last year are still in place. We follow the KDA Farmers Market guidelines.” However, he added, “I expect these safety protocols may change during the season.”
The Boyle County Fiscal Court and Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce of the market’s primary sponsors this season. “We also receive substantial support from local donors, Centre College, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Community Farms Alliance, and the UK Extension Office,” Jewel said.
