St. Asaph DAR member, Teresa McGhee, was the speaker for the chapter’s May meeting. Her program was entitled, “The Six Surviving Stone Houses of Boyle Country.”

The six houses still standing are those that were owned and built by: William Marshall; John Crowe; David Knox; John Barbee; William Thompson; and William Innis.

Ms. McGhee did her research by knocking on doors in rural parts of Boyle County, locating and photographing each dwelling, and visiting courthouses that were open to search the titles of deeds. She has documented the ownership of each property back to its original owner.

A binder of documentation on each house has been prepared and will be presented to the current owners of each house. The current and future owners of these properties will be as impressed with and grateful for this important body of work, as St. Asaph members were to her for presenting her research, and preserving a written history of these early Boyle County dwellings.
