Several runners, teams qualify for state meet

Lincoln County celebrated an individual regional championship for the second consecutive year and teams from Danville and Boyle County were among those qualifying for the state meet in regional cross country competitions Saturday.

Abigail Bastin of Lincoln County won the girls race at the Class 2A, Region 5 championships, winning the 3.1-mile race at Cave Lake Park in Mill Springs by 29 seconds with a time of 20:39.

Bastin was second in her regional race last year to former Lincoln teammate Lucy Singleton, and she finished fifth in the Class 2A girls race at the state meet.

Boys and girls teams from both Boyle and Danville qualified for the state meet, which will be held Friday and Saturday at the Bourbon County Cross Country Course in Paris. Boyle competed in the meet at Mill Springs, while Danville was in the Class  1A, Region 5 meet at Masterson Station Park in Lexington.

The Lincoln girls and Mercer boys also qualified in their respective races at Mill Springs.
