This week’s featured pets are Pecan the kitten and Prissy the dog.

Pecan is one of seven kittens and loves his kitty siblings! Pecan enjoys snuggling with his best brother Walnut on the cat tree. They both especially like curling up in one of the cubbies, snoozing away.

When they’re not cuddling up in a little ball of fur, they take turns pouncing on catnip-filled toys and bouncing around the room. Pecan is a fan of the wand toy, leaping into the air to capture the feathered end with his little front paws or chomping down with his baby teeth. Pecan is independent, loves wet food, and really digs the squeezable cat treats! Like his littermates, Pecan is a tidy kitty who reliably uses the litterbox.

Prissy is a pretty girl with striking markings; this 3-4 year old mixed breed could be part heeler. This gal is happy-go-lucky, medium energy, and loves everyone she meets! She got along with other dogs in playgroups, and made sure to give the humans some attention, too. She adores being petted and will sit to ensure a good scratch under the chin.

When a volunteer photographer staged a Fall-themed photoshoot with all of our adoptable dogs, Prissy ran to greet them before setting off on a zoomie spree! Once she got that burst of joy out, she sat calmly and flashed a huge smile, resulting in the picture you see here. Prissy is an all around great gal who will make someone a wonderful best friend.

A look back: In 2016, the capital campaign for a state-of-the-art space for dogs and puppies came to fruition: the Katherine E. Nelsen Adoption Center opened in late 2016, right before DBCHS Executive Director Kathy passed away from a terminal illness. It was a challenging time for the board and staff, having just lost their leader, but the new building made a huge difference in daily life for DBCHS’s dogs and puppies.
