Meet Chunk and Cupid, this week’s featured pets. Cupid arrived recently, and Chunk has been with DBCHS since July – way too long if you ask him. Let’s see if we can get them out of their cold, cement kennels into the warm homes they deserve.

Are you looking for the sweetest Valentine ever? Say hello to Cupid. He’s an affectionate boy if a little shy at first. Give Cupid a few moments to assess you, and he turns into a Romeo. Cupid wants to be right next to his humans and shimmies over till he’s practically lying on your lap.

Cupid is a well-mannered pup who holds his head high despite that annoying – but fashionable – cone. He prefers to snuggle with humans than play hard. He’ll get brief but powerful zoomies, though. By brief, think 15 seconds. Same with playing. Cupid will pick up a toy and promptly drop it to focus on the smells carried by the wind.   

After his burst of energy, Cupid shows affection with his gentle kisses: bring Cupid home and be loved for a lifetime.

Chunk is a three-year-old mixed-breed dog who’s true to his name: there is a lot of him to love. His big head rests on a tank of a body with a stubby tail, and his entire back end wiggles when he’s happy. Chunk likes to move that big frame around during playgroups, chasing other upbeat pups until they’re all happily exhausted.

At 68 pounds, this charming four-year-old boy is a lap dog at heart, ready to snuggle at any time. Chunk is a real fan of butt scratches, treats, and chilling in the grass. His favorite thing, though? The squeaky burger toy.

Chunk never tires of the burger as he tosses it around in the air, squeaking to his heart’s content. A close second is rope toys. Chunk can play tug-of-war like nobody’s business. Be Chunk’s third favorite thing: take him home with you.
