Student rally happening at Danville High School on LGBTQ laws

A student rally is happening at Danville High School today, Feb. 24, at 3:25 p.m. to protest anti-trans, anti-LGBTQ legislation.
The protests are aimed against Kentucky Senate Bill 150. This bill passed through the state senate on Feb. 16 and concerns the use of students’ pronouns in schools. As the bill stands, it would not require educators to use pronouns that align with a student’s gender identity. Instead, it would be optional.
The rally is 100% student led, and will be attended by students and educators who choose to show support. Students at other schools across the state are taking action and speaking out.
A press release by the Danville Independent School District said the school is aware of student-organized protests at Danville High School.
“We respect our students’ opinions and their right to make them known,” said Senior Media Manager Olivia Mohr, a spokesperson for the DISD. “There has been no significant disruption to classes or other school operations as a result of these protests.”
