Library to host author talk and nature walk; self-defense class for women

The Boyle County Public Library offers numerous free activities, special events, and services for the community year-round. Interactive activities often include storytimes, author visits, crafting, and book clubs. As spring turns into summer, the library staff is winding down their regularly scheduled youth events to prepare for an activity-packed, all-ages summer reading program, which kicks off on May 31. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:
Teen Game On
Teens are invited to play Nintendo Switch and board games at the library on Friday, April 28 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. This event will be held on the 5th Level of the library. (Teens)
Teen D&D
On Saturday, April 29 from 2-4 p.m. teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. Players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. This event will be held on the 5th Level. (Teens)
Author Talk & Nature Walk with Stephen Brown
On Saturday, April 29 from 2:30-4 p.m., author Stephen Brown will talk about gardening, caring for the earth, and discuss his book, Let the Earth Breathe: Gardening with Native Plants. The talk will be followed by a guided nature walk around the library grounds. This event will begin in the Community Room. (All ages)
Women’s Self Defense Class
Shinji Matsuda, martial arts professional, will offer a free, introductory class on women’s self-defense at the library on Saturday, May 6 at 3 p.m. Registration is required. To register, visit the event listing on the library’s website at BoylePubLib.org. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)
BCPL Seed Library
The BCPL Seed Library is now open to the public. Located on the main level of the library near the entrance to the Reading Garden, patrons may check out up to five seed packets per month. No library card is required to participate. Planting guides are available and can be photocopied if needed. Seed donations are also accepted. Those who have extra seeds that they would like to share with the community can visit the Circulation desk for complete details on how to donate. The BCPL Seed Library is a free service to the community and is offered in partnership with The Garden Club of Danville.
