United Way has special gift idea for holidays

Because of the economic hardships that COVID-19 has caused on many area families and the nonprofit organizations that assist them, The Heart of Kentucky United Way is asking the public to “Show that you care,” during this Christmas season, said HKUW Executive Director Stephanie Blevins.

“Nobody needs more stuff,” she said. But gift-givers, and gift receivers, may enjoy something meaningful. “There’s no better way to celebrate this season than with the gift of life change,” she said.

If someone chooses to make a donation as a gift, instead of just handing them a card stating that a donation was made to the United Way in their name, the local organization has something special available.

For each $25 or $50 donation, you will receive a custom made, wooden ornament in the shape of Kentucky with the inscription “2020 Because I Care,” Blevins said. And each one will be boxed and beautifully wrapped for you to give.

The ornament will be something the receiver can keep as a reminder that they have helped the community through the donation, she added.

To purchase an ornament in honor of a friend, family member of colleague you may stop by the HKUW office, located at 118 N. Third St, on Mondays before 4:30 p.m., or call (859) 583-6248 to make a donation. You may also scan the featured QR code.

Blevins said, “Now more than ever, donations to the United Way to help the community during the pandemic “just means a lot this year.”
