The Boyle County Fair was greeted with average turnout this June. Approximately 14,000 people made their way to the fairgrounds over the five-day span, according to fair board President Ryan Owens.

Owens attributed the success of this year’s fair to the variety of attractions available for fairgoers to attend.

“The baby show was probably the most popular. The demolition derby had a large turnout, we had a huge turnout to the swine show, and of course kids love the rides,” he said. “We’ve got more rides than about any other midway in central Kentucky.”

Owens noted that “we always have an issue with mother nature.”

Attendance this year compared to that of previous years, but was noticeably low on Tuesday and Thursday because of rainy weather — the fairgrounds was hit with up to 3 inches of rain.

Owens also said he’s fairly sure high temperatures on Friday and Saturday also deterred regular attendees of the fair.

There will likely be some changes for next year’s fair.

“We’re going to take a look at the schedule. We’re always trying and thinking about new things such as magicians and circus elements,” he said. “We’re going to review and see what nights had the highest attendance and try to refresh our schedule for next year.”
