Our pets of the week are Hatchi and Hoss, two Mutts With Manners (MWM) at the Northpoint Training Center in Burgin, KY. DBCHS’s program pairs carefully selected inmates with shelter dogs for one-on-one attention, socialization, and behavior modification.
The dogs participating in the program graduate with valuable skills, ready to start life with a loving family. Here’s what their handlers have to say about Hatchi and Hoss:
Hatchi is a six-year-old mixed breed with a sleek black and white coat. He is sweet, affectionate, and gets along with other dogs – and cats, too!
Hatchi is more than his charming personality: he’s trained and does tricks, too. He knows “heel,” “sit,” “down,” “wait,” “stay,” and “bring it,” a small sampling of what he can do! Hatchi has excellent recall, and his favorite tricks are spin, bow, shake, wave, and high-five.
Hatchi is a real catch who walks nicely on a leash, sits politely for petting, and accepts a friendly stranger. He’ll make an excellent family dog, so don’t miss out; take Hatchi home before someone else does!
Hoss is a handsome three-year-old mix sporting a russet coat with splashes of white. He takes a short time to warm up to strangers and other dogs, but once he’s comfortable, look out! Hoss is affectionate and likes to play with his doggie companions. Hoss has a rough and rowdy play style, so he wants to run and tumble.
In addition to the basics “sit,” “stay,” “down,” and “wait,” Hoss can perform service dog tasks. He knows “brace” and stands still to support his human as they stand up and “block” to keep people at a safe distance. He can “take,” meaning pick up and carry objects.
Hoss has a silly side, too, and will bow, play peekaboo, shake, sit pretty, and rollover. What are you waiting for? Hoss is the bestest boy and deserves to be in a warm home; make it yours!
Both boys are neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and ready to go home! If you’re interested in adopting an MWM dog, please visit https://www.dbchs.org/muttswithmannersdogs to complete an online application.
See Hoss and Hatchi show off their training at the Best Friends Animal Society National Adoption event this Saturday, December 10. DBCHS is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Best Friends will make a donation to the humane society for every pup adopted that day!
Adoptable dogs Ace, Buddy, Chunk, Cliff, Gus, Mack, Maggie, Patches, and Quinn will also be available to meet you. More info here: https://www.dbchs.org/adopt.
All shelter dogs wish for a family to snuggle with this winter; you can make their dreams come true.
