Perryville Battlefield is celebrating the 88th anniversary of the founding of the Perryville Battlefield State Historic Park on Monday, Feb. 26 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The state park was founded February 26, 1936. The celebration will happen at Civil War Hall, with cake and refreshments, and rare photographs of the early history of the park.
Park Manager Bryan Bush will host a lecture discussing the history of the park from 1897 to today, including when it became a state park, the dedication of the museum, preserving 1,200 acres of battlefield, and more.
People can see rare photographs of the battlefield from 1885, 1904, 1931, and the 1960’s at the celebration. The charge for the celebration is $5 for adults, $4.50 for seniors, and $3 for children. People can call ahead for reservations at 859-332-8631.
This year 2024 is also the 100th anniversary of the Kentucky State Parks System. Perryville Battlefield was one of the early state parks founded. As part of the anniversary, there will be articles added on the early reunions and gatherings that have been held at the battlefield over the years.
